During the night, the snowfall continued in Beding and overall weather conditions worsened. The team decided to continue the journey via Na to Tso Rolpa Lake. Trekking through knee-deep snow the team made it to 4000m, here the safety of the group had to be reassessed. At this stage, everyone was feeling the cold and with a possibility of frostbite, hypothermia and a small avalanche occurring, team leader Cian O’Brolchain made the call to turn the team around and lead the Elston trekkers back to Beding.
After waiting out the bad weather, the following morning the Elston team trekked to Simigaun. Here they were invited to a Sherpa party where they enjoyed traditional drink and learned local dancing. Despite not reaching their goal of Tso Rolpa Lake the team had an amazing experience, choosing to focus on the extra time this afforded them to immerse themselves in the Nepalese culture.
On the final day in Nepal, the group trekked to Chet Chet and boarded a bus back to Kathmandu. The team are currently homebound and we at Elston are more than proud of their achievements and exemplary display of teamwork in action.

Day 3 – Trek to Beding
The Elston trekkers woke to a blanket of snow yesterday and -5 degree temperatures. As the weather constantly changed throughout the day temperatures reached 5 degrees. Most of the team began to really feel the cold and for some the altitude as well. It was a demanding 13km trek due to the higher altitude (peaking at 4000m) and challenging weather conditions. Although some of the team were feeling fatigued, everyone put in an outstanding effort and made it to Beding (3800m) in 6hrs. Building up an appetite from all the trekking the team have been devouring the local food and enjoying it by all accounts!

We received word last night that the team have made it to Dongang! The trek through the forest from Simigaun to Dongang (2800m) was a long 6.5hrs. To break up the journey and give the team some well-deserved rest everyone stopped for lunch just beyond Rikhu (2700m) surrounded by breathtaking views.
The team’s hard efforts throughout the day were rewarded with lodging in a quaint wooden cabin by the river. Temperatures have dropped with expected snow on the horizon. The team are all doing well and the altitude is yet to claim any victims. On a less pleasant note, no one has showered since they started!
